 Two homicide detectives are on a desperate hunt for a serial killer whose crimes are based on the "seven deadly sins" in this dark and haunting film that takes viewers from the tortured remains of one victim to the next. The seasoned Det. Sommerset researches each sin in an effort to get inside the killer's mind, while his novice partner, Mills, scoffs at his efforts to unravel the case. |
 Starring: Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson Director: Christopher McQuarrie Out: December 25, 2015 Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt. Renner, Pegg and Ving Rhames reprise their roles. Swede Rebecca Ferguson (‘Hercules’) is Hunt’s “right-hand woman”, which suggests she will be an agent. Sean Harris (who got lost in ‘Prometheus’) is a villain, possibly the main one. Alec Baldwin’s role is undisclosed. The plot is under wraps but Cruise has been filmed crawling along the outside of an airplane while it is flying (for real, just like he did on the Dubai tower). The previous ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ reinvigorated the franchise, grossing an outstanding $695 million worldwide. Brad Bird considerably elevated that movie so the change of director will have a cost. Nonetheless each of the Mission: Impossible films has had very different directors and each their own style. Christopher McQuarrie, who wrote ‘The Usual Suspects’ and directed Cruise in ‘Jack Reacher’, will definitely give this a tone we haven’t seen before in the franchise – expect an earthy look, snappy cliché-flipping dialogue and clever twists on familiar action set pieces. |
