Starring: Downey Jr, Evans, Hemsworth, Ruffalo, Renner, Johansson, Spader Director: Joss Whedon Out: May 1, 2015  The Avengers reassemble to battle the sentient robot known as Ultron. Scripted and directed once again by Joss Whedon, this brings back the original ensemble and adds James Spader voicing/part mo-capping Ultron, an A.I. overwhelmed with a god complex and a rage toward his creators, who longs to take over the Earth with his own spawn. Whedon says “he is not a creature of logic, he’s genuinely disturbed – everything a robot never is.” Twins Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) also join the mix, starting off as villains under the control of HYDRA’s Baron von Strucker (Thomas Kretschmann). She has telekinetic abilities, can weave spells and is unhinged. He can move at superhuman speed, has anger-frustration and is fiercely over-protective. Meanwhile Paul Bettany, who voiced J.A.R.V.I.S. in previous films, plays the Vision. Whereas Ant-Man created Ultron in the comics, here he and the Vision seem to be coming out of Tony Stark’s lab.  Derek Vineyard is paroled after serving 3 years in prison for killing two thugs who tried to break into/steal his truck. Through his brother, Danny Vineyard's narration, we learn that before going to prison, Derek was a skinhead and the leader of a violent white supremacist gang that committed acts of racial crime throughout L.A. and his actions greatly influenced Danny. Reformed and fresh out of prison, Derek severs contact with the gang and becomes determined to keep Danny from going down the same violent path as he did. |
