 In New York, the simple and naive just-graduated in journalism Andrea Sachs is hired to work as the second assistant of the powerful and sophisticated Miranda Priestly, the ruthless and merciless executive of the Runway fashion magazine. Andrea dreams to become a journalist and faces the opportunity as a temporary professional challenge. The first assistant Emily advises Andrea about the behavior and preferences of their cruel boss, and the stylist Nigel helps Andrea to dress more adequately for the environment. Andrea changes her attitude and behavior, affecting her private life and the relationship with her boyfriend Nate, her family and friends. In the end, Andrea learns that life is made of choices. |

Starring: Dakota Johnson, Jamie Dornan, Eloise Mumford Director: Sam Taylor-Johnson Out: February 13, 2015 (U.S. Release Dates)  A literature student (Johnson, ‘Need for Speed’) meets a handsome, yet tormented, billionaire (Dornan, TV’s ‘The Fall’) and they begin an affair. He is consumed by the need to control everything. As they get closer she starts to discover his secrets, while being introduced to new world of kinky bedroom fantasies. Mr Grey actor Jamie Dornan is a virtual unknown, after Charlie Hunnam got cold feet and dropped out. The casting doesn’t quite seem right, with the ‘innocent’ lit student (played by Melanie Griffith’s daughter) looking more experienced than most. Since the book is famous for being an S&M fest, early footage has disappointed fans with its tame nature, emphasising romanticism over eroticism. Nonetheless there’s still time to refocus. The director of ‘Nowhere Boy’ has persuaded her husband Aaron Taylor-Johnson, to take a small unspecified role. While it probably won’t be a great film, watching the phenomenon will be quite fun. |

Relegated by her stepmother to a servant girl covered in ashes and spitefully renamed “Cinderella” since she used to work in the cinders, Ella (James, ‘Downton Abbey’) could easily begin to lose hope. She meets a kindred soul in the woods, a dashing stranger (Madden, ‘Game of Thrones’) who she thinks is an employee at the palace, when he is actually the Prince. When her stepmother (Blanchett) forbids her to attend to palace ball and callously rips apart her dress, help is at hand as a kindly beggar woman/fairy godmother (Bonham Carter), armed with a pumpkin and a few mice, changes Cinderella’s life forever. After the financial success of ‘Alice in Wonderland’, Disney have been redoing their animated classics as non-animated, with ‘Maleficent’ the most recent. This Cinderella seems to be combining plot ideas from many other recent adaptations including ‘Ever After’, ‘Ella Enchanted’, ‘The Glass Slipper’ and ‘Cinderella on Broadway’. Expect this to be a significantly more expensive, grander looking production than any of those, with that added Disney magic. |

An aspiring author (Wasikowska), who is torn between love for her childhood friend and the temptation of a mysterious outsider, tries to escape the ghosts of her past but is swept away to a house that breathes, bleeds …and remembers. Released just in time for Halloween, director Del Toro, who also co-created the idea, says “It’s a classical romance ghost story, but it has several scenes that are really disturbing in a very modern way. It’s a proper R rating. And it’s adult.” The word “kinky” has been used. His aim is to honour large-scale horror like ‘The Innocents’, Robert Wise’s ‘The Haunting’, and ‘The Shining’. “I think people are getting used to horror subjects done as found footage or B-value budgets,” he says. “I wanted this to feel like a throwback.” Amen to that. |
