Starring: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D’Onofrio, Irrfan Khan Director: Colin Trevorrow Out: June 12, 2015  Twenty-two years after the events of ‘Jurassic Park’, Isla Nublar now features a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World, as originally envisioned by John Hammond. Owen (Chris Pratt), a member of the on-site staff, conducts behavioural research on the velociraptors.. When, after some time, the park’s attendance rates decline, a new genetically-modified dinosaur attraction is created to re-spark visitor interest (using DNA from other species to create something bigger, louder, with more teeth), which gravely backfires… Vincent D’Onofrio plays the film’s villain, a corporate CFO, while Irrfan Khan is the head of the Patel Corporation, now in ownership of Isla Nublar and the park. BD Wong is back as Dr. Henry Wu, with a more significant role than in the first film. The rest of the original cast is not involved, although Spielberg is back as a producer. The director of the tiny well-received indie drama ‘Safety Not Guaranteed’ is facing a considerable challenge with this enormous fx project as his second film. He’s lucky to have Chris Pratt in the lead, who after ‘The Lego Movie’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ is a major star, showing considerable charisma on screen. ‘Jurassic Park 4’ in its various incarnations has been stuck in development hell for over a decade and even Trevorrow’s version was all set to film when it was pulled back at the last minute into development again – it should have been out a year earlier. That hints at a potential mess but there’s still huge potential in the franchise and having a fully functioning theme park filled with members of the public for the first time in the series (!) is definitely the right setting. It’s 13 years since ‘Jurassic Park 3’ so the dino fx should be something breathtaking. |

The Diamond Arm (Russian: Бриллиантовая рука Brilliantovaya ruka) is a 1969 Soviet comedy film filmed by Mosfilm and first released in 1969. The film was directed by director Leonid Gaidai and starred several famous Soviet actors, including Yuri Nikulin, Andrei Mironov, Anatoli Papanov, Nonna Mordyukova and Svetlana Svetlichnaya. The Diamond Arm has become a Russian cult film and is considered by many Russian contemporaries to be one of the finest comedies of its time. It was also one of the all-time leaders at the Soviet box office with over 76,700,000 theatre admissions in the Soviet era. The plot of the film was based on a real-life news item about Swiss smugglers who tried to transport jewels in an orthopedic cast. |
