Starring: Rosemarie DeWitt, Sam Rockwell, Jared Harris Director: Gil Kenan Out: July 24, 2015  The Bowen family relocate to a new town, where daughter Madison connects with spiritual beings and is abducted. Character actress Rosemarie DeWitt plays the mother, while Sam Rockwell is the abusive father of the household. A reboot/sequel, this plays out in the same universe as the ’82 original, set some time after the Freeling family left town. It seems the father may be estranged in this case, living elsewhere. One new supporting character is a TV personality (Harris) who hosts a show called “Haunted House Cleaners”. He has an ex-wife, a parapsychologist, who’s also brought in to investigate the truth behind Madison’s abduction. The director of ‘Monster House’ tackles a script by the screenwriter of ‘Oz: The Great and Powerful’. Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures produces. There’s plenty of calibre attached, some fresh twists and the producers did a decent job with ‘The Evil Dead’ remake. |
